Video games are very entertaining to play and that’s no secret. And when something is fun, people like to capture the moment for everyone else to see!

Whether you record a game to keep a personal archive of your playthroughs and glitches, or to upload it on the internet, it’s always essential to have a good video recorder by your side.

Unlike normal video recorders that you can use on your computer, video games require dedicated software that can properly capture what you’re playing. In the past, simply having something like Fraps did the job – but it’s unsupported by newer games.

One of the best options that you can use in 2022 is Overwolf’s Outplayed application, which has a very simple user-interface that lets you capture and edit very quickly.

So, how do you use Overwolf’s Outplayed to record and edit gameplay footage? And does it support all games? Let’s answer all of these questions in a short but precise guide!

What Games Does Outplayed Support?

Like most other PC game recorders that you can use, Outplayed does not support every single game. Outplayed can record over 300 games and the priority of the developers of the app is to focus on newer games at the time. You can head over to the app’s page to find the names of all of the supported games, such as Among Us, Fortnite, Overwatch, Call of Duty, Ark: Survival Evolved, Elden Ring, and more.

And if you don’t see the game that you need to record, you can do two things. The first thing to try is to record the game anyway and chances are it might work, just without specific features like Highlights. The second thing that you can do is to head over to Overwolf’s Ideas Portal and suggest the game that you want to be included. In any case, new games are added regularly, so just be patient!

How to Record Games Using Outplayed

The primary feature of Outplayed is to capture video game footage. A few programs make this process complicated, but such is not the case for this convenient application.

The first step is to download and install the program.

Then, you can tell the program what games you generally play. This does not have any effect on the overall experience and games that you don’t select will still be recorded.

Alongside the software, you get the Overwolf overlay as well which comes with a few benefits that gamers can make use of. Although you can ignore Overwolf, it still will remain on as Outplayed is an app that runs on that engine.

Once the program opens, it will ask you to set up your basic settings. For example, you can decide what quality and frame rate you want to record in. And you can choose the audio quality of your videos too.

After you’ve decided what settings you wish to record in and select the right options, you’ll be taken to the last menu. This menu will ask you to either select default keyboard commands to record your gameplay or customize your own.

Now, you’re all good to go. You can start recording any time that you want in the games that you play!

You can either stop the recording manually or close the game when you’re done, which will end the recording by itself. The program also keeps recording if you tab out of the game and resumes automatically when you return.

One last thing that’s worth noting is that Overwolf’s Outplayed comes with many auto recording options. For example, the software starts recording highlights any time it believes that you did something cool in the game. For example, getting many kills under a short period of time in Fortnite.

You can customize and disable these options easily, so just head over the Settings section of the app to take a look. And additionally, you can change just about anything else too.

Once you’ve set all of these things up, then you’re good to go! You can easily record the games that you love to play and the program will do it automatically for you too, based on your settings. Of course, things like whether your microphone is recorded or not can be changed too.

If this guide felt too easy, then you’re not wrong! Outplayed is a very easy program to use, but its usefulness is very efficient. One final thing to note is that you can purchase the Premium version of Outplayed too, which removes ads and gives a few extra options like adding an automatic creator watermark to your clips.

How to Edit Videos in Outplayed

One of the best features of Overwolf is that you can edit the videos that you record immediately within the application itself. It’s very easy to use the editor, so let’s take a look at how.

There are two ways to use the editor. The first one requires you to click on the reel icon on the left side of the screen, which shows you existing projects and lets you start a new one too. The other one is to just select any video from your homepage and click ‘Open in Editor’ afterwards.

Once you’re inside the editor, you can crop and arrange the videos that you have recorded in any way that you like. This helps you get rid of excessive footage as soon as you’re done recording it and makes it easier to upload it online. Even if you use a different video editor afterwards, it’s still useful to have the video already arranged in the correct order beforehand.

You can also teach the program to filter events in your videos, such as when a kill has taken place. This helps you save more time as the program will categorize parts of the video for you and then you can compile them together.

Aside from cropping and compiling, you can change the volume (or disable it) and if you have Outplayed Premium you can apply your watermark on videos too. The software only supports .mp4 files, so that should be kept in mind too at the end of the day.

That’s all that you need to know in regards to how you can capture video game footage and then edit it in Overwolf’s Outplayed!

We hope that you found this guide useful as we went over every important feature of the application. While you’re still here, do make sure to check out many of our other articles too which we’re sure will be useful to you in one way or another.
